Stewardship at Barrhaven United Church

Although the concept of stewardship is not new within the context of the church, it is often misunderstood or misinterpreted as a singular focus on fundraising in support of program, facility and administrative costs.

At Barrhaven United Church we embrace stewardship as celebrating Thanksgiving each and every day.

In a world of competing priorities and pressures, life events and family needs, it is easy to lose sight of the many gifts and blessings that God has provided to each and every one of us and that enrich our lives with the opportunity to be the answer to someone else’s prayers.

Consequently stewardship entails inspiring others through sharing of the impact that people’s efforts and contributions are having within the congregation, in our community and beyond and to gratefully acknowledge and recognize these gifts.

Stewardship is therefore nurturing generosity as a spiritual practice and the recognition of how much God truly loves us. There is no greater peace and joy than that that results from the cheerful and generous sharing of our time, talent and other resources in support of God’s work in the world and making it a better place for all.

Barrhaven United Church contributes to this work in a multitude of ways from supporting of the Barrhaven Food Cupboard since its inception, sponsoring of refugee families, multifaith housing initiatives and hosting a number of critical community programs in our facilities.

As a congregation we are blessed by music, spiritual leadership, fellowship, pastoral care, healing pathway, bible study and Christian education, all of which are made possible by people sharing of their God given gifts.

Stewardship is very much a part of who we are. It was foundational to the establishing of Barrhaven United Church over forty years ago and it remains very much alive and well today.
