Multifaith Housing Initiative (MHI) is a major Outreach partner of Barrhaven United Church. For almost two decades we have worked with MHI and a coalition of over 70 different faith communities to help address the issue of the lack of affordable housing in the City of Ottawa. Through this work we have supported MHI’s housing communities in the downtown area as well as the ‘The Haven’, a housing community in Barrhaven.
MHI opened their newest housing community in early February. Veterans’ House: the Andy Carswell Building is MHI’s first community that is dedicated to veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The facility provides supportive housing for 40 veterans that include mental health and addiction services, gathering spaces like a communal kitchen and outdoor barbeque facilities, an indoor gym and a dog park for service dogs.
‘United We Stand: EOORC’s campaign for Veterans House’ is a partnership between the Eastern Ontario Outaouais Regional Council (EOORC) of the United Church of Canada and MHI to make a difference in the lives of veterans in the Eastern Ontario area by financially supporting the construction of Veterans’ House. As part of EOORC’s fundraising campaign, Barrhaven United Church has launched its own campaign with a goal of $3,000 to help fund the cost of constructing Veterans’ House. Should you feel called to support this campaign, donations will be accepted until the end of June 2021.
